Maltitol is a polyol sugar substitute with approximately 75–90% the sweetness of sucrose, used in sugar-free pharmaceutical lozenges, chewable tablets, and confectionery products. It has a good mouthfeel, is non-cariogenic, and provides approximately 2.1 kcal/g compared to sucrose's 4 kcal/g.
