HPMC E15 (Hypromellose E15) — Pharma Excipient Supplier, Hyderabad
Product Overview
HPMC E15 (Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose, 15 cps viscosity grade) is the medium-viscosity grade of HPMC used as a binder, controlled-release matrix polymer, and viscosity modifier in pharmaceutical tablet formulations. Preferred over E5 when higher binding strength or more sustained drug release is needed.

Frequently Asked Questions
Where can I buy HPMC E15 (Hypromellose 15 cps) in Hyderabad?
Surravi Phharma supplies HPMC E15 IP/BP/EP/USP grade in Hyderabad. Widely used as a sustained-release matrix former and tablet binder. Ready stock available. Call +91 8008002576 for pricing and documentation.
How is HPMC E15 used in sustained-release tablet formulations?
In sustained-release (SR) tablets, HPMC E15 is included at 15–35% w/w as a hydrophilic matrix former. On contact with gastrointestinal fluids, HPMC hydrates and forms a gel layer that controls drug diffusion. Higher HPMC concentrations produce slower, more extended release profiles.
Can HPMC E15 be used in ophthalmic formulations?
Yes. HPMC is widely used in artificial tear eye drops and ophthalmic irrigating solutions at 0.3–1.0% concentration as a viscosity enhancer and lubricant. It is non-irritating, compatible with ophthalmic preservatives, and provides prolonged corneal contact time.
What is the difference between HPMC K grades and E grades?
E and K refer to different substitution types. E-grades (E5, E15) have higher methoxyl content and are preferred for film coatings and lower-viscosity applications. K-grades (K4M, K15M, K100M) have higher hydroxypropyl content and are preferred for sustained-release matrix tablets. We supply both E and K grades on request.
